Your Hanoi day trip should begin with a visit to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum. Here you will hear about the history of a man who single handedly led a campaign against the French colonial rule in search of Vietnamese independence. After Ho Chi Minh’s death in 1969, his body was preserved here. The historic One pillar Pagoda and the Presidential Palace should be your next stop as you need to just go around the grounds to see them.
If you walk down Phan Dinh Phung Street you will get a chance to view the gorgeous architecture of the French buildings. Further down you will be able to walk on the oldest bridge in Hanoi, the Long Bien Bridge also built by the French.
After this a visit to the Temple of Literature is a must as this 11th century relic was built in honor of the Confucius, a Chinese scholar.
You can mingle with the locals to get an insight into the culture and ideals of the place. Enjoy lunch with a local family savoring the genuine home cooked food.
A visit to the Museum of Ethnology will educate you about the tribal arts and artifacts of Vietnam’s minorities that have been brought from all over and collected here. You will be able to get a view of the traditional village houses too.
The tour ends with a visit to Lang which is the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi. This place gives a serenity and peace that can be experienced by the young who come here to read and paint and old who come to relax in the peaceful environment.
